FOOD NEWS: New Wolffy’s Place In East Village Offers A Taste Of The Windy City

Bob Wolff knows Chicago food.

SEPTEMBER 1, 2009 -- Every Mike Ditka-worshiping Chicagoan loves Da Bulls and Da Bears. And according to Bob Wolff, they also go nutty over Da Beef—Italian beef, that is. Wolff says his new East Village restaurant, Wolffy’s Place, will provide an absolutely authentic taste of the Second City.

“Ribs, hot dogs—the Italian beef—this is soul food for people who are from Chicago,” says Wolff. “These are staples for Chicago—the way Mexican food is a staple here. An Italian beef hot dog is almost like a religion.”

Wolffy’s Place is at the downtown corner of Ninth and Market, just blocks from where Wolff just bought a condo unit. His Chicago eatery had a soft opening just over a week ago, and he’s waiting…and waiting… and waiting…for the city to issue him liquor license before doing a grand opening.

Staffed by fedora-wearing servers dressed all in black, the restaurant offers Chicago-style wings, deep dish pizzas and Wolffy’s original hot dog tacos. The meat falls off the bone of the hickory-smoked barbecued ribs.

Wolff, who spends a great deal of time in his restaurant, offers a money-back guarantee on the ribs. “If you eat one rib and don’t like it, I will give you your money back,” he says. “I’ll know if you’re not telling the truth—because you’ll already be eating the second rib.”

Man, I want to eat here.
You had me at "hot dog."

I'm a sucker for deep-dish pizza...I'm already thinking of going there for lunch and I just barely got into the office!

San Diego Pizza?!?!
I'll gladly enjoy the Chicago pizza. BUT, I would love for you to create a "San Diego" pizza as well. Why not?!?!?

Sorry, I don't like it. I don't like the food. I don't like the restaurant itself and I certainly don't like the owner. He's rude, obnoxious and full of himself. Why should I spent my hard earned money at a place where the food is just mediocore and the owner is horrid.

Looks like the owners don't like to see negative reviews so they have them deleted. The food is not good. The owner is obnoxious and I wouldn't want to help him get any more things that the customers have to hear about. Why does he need to hover over the customers. The food is mediocre at best. The food quality is not good and the portion sizes keep getting smaller and smaller and smaller. What's up with that? Stay away. Let's see how long this review stays up here!

This place is awful. The food was bad when they opened and it has gone downhill ever since. They are skimping on their portions and the quality is terrible. The owners certainly have an atiitude and I agree that they don't like negative reviews and I also see that they are removing them so no one else sees them. they have a lot to learn in the restaurant business and customer service. I am done giving them a chance.

Have to tell everyone that we ordered a deep deep pizza over the weekend and two of us got violantly ill. Don't know what it was but something on that pie was bad. It was expensive, and not at all what I remembered a chicago deep dish pizza to be - DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR YOUR MONEY.

I am interested in trying the food at Wolffy's but the claim that the midwest was the setting for all three Jaws movies is blatantly false. The first Jaws movie was filmed on Martha's Vineyard island off the coast of Massachusetts which is very East Coast. I hope you take better care in your food prep than your ad research
